Happy Summer, Troop 805!

I am excited to announce sign-ups for a very special outing: Whitewater Canoeing on the Klamath River, August 15-18, 2014. (Note: This is not the whitewater rafting trip in June.)  Troop 805 has offered this outing only once before (four years ago). And this will be the last time it is offered, as this is the last year that Canoe West (our outfitter) will be guiding trips. (They are retiring.)

This is a four-day trip of camping and canoeing on the beautiful Klammath River in far northern California. Canoe West will provide excellent equipment and instruction as we safely learn to canoe in relatively calm, warm, moving waters, and progress to the challenge of class 1 and class 2 rapids. We’ll camp three nights, and canoe on the river two full days, working from our base camp. This is an outing you’ll never forget! Due to forest service limitations, this trip is limited to 20 participants (adults and scouts), who will be selected on a first-come, first served basis. Cost is $245 per paddler.

Some important notes: Permission slips and payments are due no later than July 8 (no exceptions, no refunds!) due to Canoe West requirements. A valid Part C Medical Form is required as this outing exceeds 72 hours. All participants must have passed the BSA Swim Test during the past year. Summer camp is going to be the best opportunity to take the swim test, but we can make special arrangements if necessary. Canoe West Release Forms are required in addition to our permission slip. Permission slips and the Canoe West Release forms are posted online here: Permission Slip and Waiver

Can you canoe? Don’t miss this once-in-a-scouting opportunity to say Yes!
