Dear Parents,
Welcome and thank you for choosing Troop 805. This page contains the information to get you off to a good start.
First Things First
The first official Troop meeting for your son is Tuesday, March 3rd, 2015 at 7:00 – 8:30pm, at the MPR of Sycamore Valley Elementary School (map). This is a very important meeting as new patrols will be formed and your son will participate in naming his patrol, as well as selecting his patrol’s first patrol leaders.
The following items are due at the meeting:
The first assignment for your Scout is to bring the above items (stapled together) to the meeting and hand them directly to Mr. Chan, the Scoutmaster.
Troop Meetings
Parents are not required to attend Troop meetings. You are welcome to stay but please realize you will be observing instead of participating in the meetings. We also ask that you do not bring siblings to the meetings.
Parent Meetings
Parent meetings are held periodically (see Troop calendar) at the school library during Troop meetings. Your first parent meeting is on Tuesday, March 3rd, 2015. We will cover Troop structure, schedule, equipment, uniform, expectations, etc. Attendance is expected.
Unfortunately this is an adult only meeting. Our host school is not allowing any children in the library facility. Thank you for your understanding.
Uniform
- Have your Scout look at the BSA Uniform website or Uniform Inspection Sheet to see what needs to be removed/added for the first Troop meeting. Patch placement information can also be found at inside covers of the Boy Scout Handbook.
- Our Troop requires official scout pants and not jeans.
- The green temporary neckerchief you received needs to be returned to the Troop in exchange for the official red Troop 805 neckerchief when your Scout advances to Scout rank. Please do not write on the green neckerchief.
- Your initial dues cover a Class B tee shirt. Extra items can be ordered with the apparel order form that will be coming soon.
- The Boy Scout Handbook is part of a Scout’s uniform. Please have your Scout bring it to all meetings and outings.
Scout Skills Weekend
Troop 805’s Scout Skills Weekend is coming up on Saturday, March 28th, 2015. This overnight trip is close to home and introduces new Scouts to camping away from parents with the Troop. It provides a great opportunity for your son to bond with fellow Scouts and to get to know each other. It also prepares new Scouts for longer and farther camping trips in the months to come. We will cover many essential skills including Firem’n Chit, Totin’ Chip, and a variety of camping skills. Participation is highly recommended and permission slip is due soon on Tuesday, March 17th, 2015. Learn more about this event here and stay tuned for details as we get closer to the event.
