September 11 Remembrance Event

On September 11, 2001, thousands of people lost their lives in one of the most infamous attacks on America. We will honor & remember them during San Ramon Valley’s 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony. All uniformed Scouts and leaders are invited to participate in this meaningful patriotic ceremony. Scouts will parade holding American Flags at the All Wars Memorial. The entire family is also welcome to attend the ceremony.

Parking is available at both of the Monte Vista High School lots, located on Stone Valley Road, adjacent to the park. The event is scheduled to start at 6:00 pm. Bring water. Families should bring a blanket or chair to sit in.

Detail Information

Expectations
– Scouts and Leaders should be in full uniform
– Only U.S. flags provided by the Exchange Club will be used
– Scouts need to act as adults during the ceremony

Parking
– Parking is available at both of the Monte Vista High School parking lots, located on Stone Valley Road adjacent to the park.

Assembly Area
Units will all assemble and check in at the small picnic area midway between the memorial and the clubhouse. An adult or senior Scout representative from each unit will report to the coordinator for instructions and flag issue. At approximately 5:45 PM we will move to the Scout entry point for the ceremony and ready for a 5:50 entrance.

Timeline
5:30 Scouts arrive, organize, are briefed and are issued flag
5:45 Scout units assemble on line prior to Program Start
5:50 On cue, Scout units with American flags march single file to form a semi-circle at the rear of the program area and remain in place until program end. Once in place, the flag poles will be lowered to the ground. Please refrain from swaying the flags during the ceremony. If necessary, additional Scouts will proceed up the path to the flagpole for positioning
6:00 Program Starts – Scouts stand fast with the flags during the program
7:00 Approximate – Program ends. Scouts on cue march back to staging area, turn in flags, and head off for ice cream in the designated area

Safety
Please, no running to, from or in the park
The flags may get heavy for the smaller Scouts and teamwork and adult assistance with the flags may be necessary

Post Ceremony
Scouts and other young guests are invited to ice cream afterwards
