Art Merit Badge Workshop

Dates: November 5, 12, 19 & December 1
Cost: $10 for supplies / $5 suggested donation for Oakland museum outing
Location: MPR, Sycamore Valley Elementary School

Mrs. Dagen is offering the Art Merit Badge workshop for up to 12 scouts. Please read the requirements, and sign up on Troopmaster if interested. Mrs. Dagen will obtain the new blue cards from Mr. Castro, please don’t ask him individually.  There will be 3 meetings, an at-home project, and an Oakland museum outing. Scouts working on partials are welcome to come to just the meetings needed.

Adults, please email Mrs. Dagen if you can co-teach this class with her. The more teachers we have, the more scouts we can accept. If no co-teachers, Mrs. Dagen can still use your help for two-deep leadership. 

Meeting Dates:
Tuesday, November 5 from 6:00 to 7:00 PM – Discuss requirements 1, 2, 3 and 4. Using charcoal, draw fruit or another subject of your choosing.
Tuesday, November 12 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM – Discuss requirement 5 & 7. Using oil pastels, draw the same subject you chose last week.
Tuesday, November 19, 7:00 PM (optional meeting) – Draw two more pictures of the same subject using two new methods. Mrs. Dagen will provide ink, watercolors, pencils or color pencils. Scouts attending PLC can borrow art supplies and work at home. Scouts wishing to use other media such as oil paints, tempera, acrylics, or computer drawings can do so at home using their own supplies.
Sunday, December 1, 11:00 AM – Oakland Museum Tour (requirement 6)
Scouts will work on requirement 5 on their own then meet with Mrs. Dagen for sign-offs.  Contact Mrs. Dagen for any questions.

Dates: Saturday to Sunday, October 26-27, 2019
Location: Sugarloaf Ridge State Park, Sonoma County
Meet: Saturday, Oct 26th 9:30am @ Sycamore Park and Ride
Pickup: Sunday, Oct 27nd 1:30pm @ Sycamore Park and Ride
Cost: $25
Attire: Class A (for Travel, Flags, etc) and Class B (for hikes, etc)
Bring: Bag lunch, 10 Essentials, watch weather and bring appropriate gear

Take a Hike – Las Trampas

Date: Friday, August 30, 2019
Meet: Las Trampas Regional Wilderness (18012 Bollinger Canyon Road, San Ramon) at 6:00pm
Attire: Class B, Scout Pants or Shorts and “mandatory” close toe shoes
Bring: Picnic dinner and water
Permission slip: 2019 Las Trampas Hike Permission Slip

We will hike the Bollinger Creek Loop Trail (approx. 1.5 miles), the trail is dirt with some rough areas due to live stock traffic. Water Bottle is a must as there is NO WATER in the park.

After our hike we will eat our “bring your own” picnic dinner at the Shady Picnic area until 7:45pm and then return to Park & Ride. Contact Mrs. Quatman teamquatman@gmail.com for questions.

Swimming Merit Badge Clinics

The SFBAC will host four Swimming Merit Badge Clinics on September 21st and 22nd, 2019. There are morning and afternoon sessions, only one session per Scout is needed. Cost is $50 per scout.

Scouts need to bring a blue card signed by the Scoutmaster.  Click here for more details and to register directly with SFBAC.

To participate in Storefront Sales and/or Wagon Sales, please place your Popcorn Kit Order by 8/20 to receive popcorn on 9/5. There is no upfront cost to order Popcorn. Scouts will be responsible for managing their inventory and unsold popcorn can be returned to the Troop to be transferred to other scouts or sold at the October CoH to help support the Troop’s Quartermaster supply fund and reduce the cost of Fall and Spring Scout Skills.

9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

Time: 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Oak Hill Park (3005 Stone Valley Road, Danville)

Reuters photo.All uniformed scouts and leaders are invited to participate in this meaningful patriotic ceremony to honor and remember the thousands who lost their lives in one of the most infamous attacks on America.  In 2001, John Bennett, FBI Special Agent, was in the New Jersey FBI building across from the World Trade Towers. He was immediately involved in investigating the attack that he witnessed firsthand. His immersion in interviewing the survivors to find clues to the terrorists brought forth intense memories that will stay with him forever.
