Deadliest Catch Fishing at Lake Chabot

Date: February 23, 2019 – Saturday

Location: Lake Chabot near Castro Valley

Get your fishing gear ready! Troop 805 is going fishing at Lake Chabot on Saturday, Feb. 23rd. Join the fun on this one-day event that will take place less than a half-hour drive from Danville. Find where your fishing rod is hiding in the garage and replace the line on your reel if it is no longer serviceable. If you have a favorite way to rig your line, be sure to replenish needed supplies. If there is no fishing gear at your home, no problem! Several adults in the troop family will be glad to loan you what you’ll need.

Lake Chabot receives plantings of catchable rainbow trout – 1,000 pounds on January 22nd and 750 pounds on December 24th. This means there are a couple already in the lake waiting to take your offering. All you need to do is plan now to participate in this exciting outing. Tight lines everyone!

Permission slip – due Tues. 2/19th

Merit Badge Counselors Needed

Each of you has skills, knowledge, and enthusiasm that you can pass on to our scouts.

You can share those skills by becoming a Merit Badge Counselor. Our Troop welcomes Merit Badge Counselors for all topics, but specifically needs counselors for these merit badges, which are required for Eagle rank:

  • Cycling – includes (2) 10-mile rides, (2) 15-mile rides, (2) 25-mile rides and (1) 50-mile ride. Although we have three counselors listed, they no longer have a scout in the Troop. We need biking enthusiasts to become counselors!
  • Environmental Science
  • Sustainability

Examples of additional merit badges with no current counselor are Wilderness Survival, Indian Lore, Traffic Safety, Athletics, Water Sports, Inventing, Dentistry…

Click on this article that gives an overview of what is required to become a Merit Badge Counselor, which include being over 18 years old, current YPT, and your enthusiasm and expertise in a particular subject.

Meridian District also holds Merit Badge Counselor Training at their monthly Roundtable. Check out the Roundtable calendar for the next one. We encourage parents to attend the Merit Badge Counselor training at the Roundtable, which are held at the LDS Church in Alamo. There is no obligation to become a counselor afterward. Please attend to learn ways in which you can share your talents and skills to help our scouts.

Parents who wish to become counselors may begin with a simple merit badge such as Fingerprinting or Coin Collecting. Shorten the learning curve by asking current counselors for tips on how they present and discuss the requirements of that merit badge with scouts.

Do you wish to lead a Merit Badge Session for our Troop? Please contact Maria Hudson (925) 207-6400 to propose dates for your session.

Consider becoming a merit badge counselor or add to your list of merit badges if you are already a MB counselor. Here is a list of the current Merit Badge Counselors for our troop. If you need to add or drop a merit badge, please email this completed form to Maria Hudson.
